2012 Special Olympics USA Scarf Project

 Howdy All! I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend so far! I know I am!  So, last week I finished up the 10 scarves that I had been working on for a few weeks. I made these for a wonderful group that helps provide handmade scarves for participants, families and volunteers of the Special Olympics. I participated in this project last year by crocheting 5 scarves and I challenged myself to double that for this year. I did it! So, here are the finished scarves.

A Big Dinosaur Roar

Howdy All!

 I've been busy, busy, busy creating all kinds of stuff! Whew! Time to take a break and post some pics. Today I have a really cute crochet set that I whipped up for a girlfriend's brand spankin' new grandson. Her daughter has done the nursery in a dinosaur them so used that for my inspiration as well as idea's I saw on my new obsession: Pinterest! God I can get lost for hours at a time on there!

I made up my own pattern for the hat. I just kind of winged it till it looked the way that I wanted it to. The diaper cover, however, is from a free pattern I found on Pinterest. Here is the LINK. This was a pretty simply pattern to follow and I will definitely use it again. I also made a blanket to wrap the sweet baby in. I just used a basic ripple stitch and was able to finish this in a few nights of watching tv.

I also made a darling card to match the dinosaur theme and I will be sure to post a photo of it tomorrow!

Hats, Mittens & Scarves

Happy day! So today I have some pics of the cute hat, mitten and scarf sets I crocheted for my sweet nieces, Aaliyah - age 4 and Bianca - age 1 & 1/2. Each set was completed in a weekend while watching tv and I decided to use variegated yarn so I didn't need to change colors and weave in lots of ends. I just love little mittens for little hands, don't you? These were my very first attempts at crocheting mittens and I must admit that I am extremely pleased with the end result and I will definitely be making more! I recently joined an online crochet website, www.allfreecrochet.com, that has all kinds of neat crochet patterns that are free for all different levels of crocheters. They also provide tips and videos, so give it a look-see when you get a chance! Here is a link to the pattern for the mittens that I used:

It's a New Year!

It's a new day, a new week, a new month and a new year!! I know I have been missing for a couple of months, but I had things piling up on my plate that just had to be taken care of! I have missed posting to my Blog and hope to get back into the swing of things and posting as often as I can! I spent most of November and December preparing for Christmas. I love to make handmade gifts for the people in my life that I love the most!

Here are two hat and scarf sets that I crocheted for my 2 teenage nephews. I did them in their school colors so they can show their school spirit! The hat in the top photo was basically from a pattern I found in an old Bernat Learn To Crochet booklet that was published in 1970! I altered it slightly to make it striped and then I just whipped up the scarf to match.
The hat in the bottom photo came from a Leisure Arts booklet called Chase the Chill from 1998. Again, I altered slightly and then created the scarf to match! I sure hope these will keep the boys warm back in Rochester, NY! Stop back tomorrow to see more handmade goodies!

No Card, But Still Something Very Cute

Howdy All and good evening!
Instead of a card tonight, I thought I would share with you this cute little hat and scarf set I crocheted. I used a pattern for the pumpkin hat that I found on FaveCrafts.com
and then I decided to add a scarf. I just made it up without a pattern to match the hat! How cute is this? I sent it to my son's friend who just had a baby girl along with the card that I made. He posted a pic on Facebook with her wearing them to go on her first walk in the stroller at 8 days old! She looked absolutely precious! The best part about this project is that it took me lest than 5 hours (while watching t.v.) When I packaged them up to send in the mail I even made a tag to attach to it.
